Deployed Yale classroom trials with 60+ students (2025, 2026 ongoing)

I’m curious how the dawn of new computing platforms and HCI paradigms such as spatial computing and AI will change our cognitive relationship with information.

I've developed a "Mind Palace" interface for augmented reality. This research positions itself in opposition to attention-extraction models that characterize contemporary short-form video platforms such as TikTok. Where algorithmic content delivery systems optimize for time-spent metrics and advertising revenue, Mind Palace explores alternative paradigms encouraging curiosity-driven exploration and knowledge persistence.

Current experimental implementations include a digital twin of Pompeii containing a spatialized archaeological archive, and collaboration with a Yale course (Spring 2025) where students co-construct a collective externalized memory architecture throughout the semester, allowing for empirical assessment of collaborative knowledge construction in spatial computing environments.

Yale Classroom Trial

Mind Palace is deployed as a primary tool of instruction at the Finding Yourself in the Future of Creativity Course at Yale for Spring 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters. 60+ students engaged in shared Mind Palaces and experienced collaborative learning in a XR environment.

Apple generously sponsored a Vision Pro device for each participating student.

Navigation & AI Interface

With a flip of the wrist., call up the main menu, a minimap of the current palace, or the conversational AI assistant.

The assistant LLM has access to the full mind palace through RAG and can answer questions & highlight nodes

Janusian Zoom

Named after the Roman God of Janus, who curiously has two faces.

A rethinking of the classic two handed zoom in a spatial context - instead of simply scaling up and down, we are actually zooming IN to a more focused mode of thinking, and zooming OUT to a more exploratory mode of thinking by dynamically scaling the information presented to the user.

An algorithm analyzes considers the overall topology of the memory palace and the user’s interactions to determine the relative weight of each node for any moment and zoom level.
