Kaifeng Wu 吴凯风
Kai Wu creates alternative futures for human-technology relationships through both artistic practice and critical intervention. His work exists at the convergence of code, storytelling, design, and functional prototyping to reimagine how emerging technologies shape lived human experience.
As an artist, Wu transforms diverse media into poetic experiences—turning buildings into instruments, rendering cosmic phenomena tangible, and creating interactive environments that invite wonder and reflection. As a maker, he founded ventures like the Mind Palace (an AR knowledge space), Pebble (an intimate communication wearable), and Here (a location-based social platform) that prioritize curiosity, connection, and presence over algorithmic control.
Wu's dual practice emerges from a critical examination of how technology shapes human experience and its underlying power structures. He creates artifacts that remain viable within existing global infrastructures while reimagining their purpose. His work offers alternatives to extractive digital platforms by creating technologies that enhance our relationship with memory, intimacy, physical space, and community.
Wu is currently a PhD student in the Media Arts + Practice program at the USC School of Cinematic Arts, and holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University. He co-founded Memory Labs and Someware Games. His work has been featured in solo exhibitions at the Goethe Institut and Yale School of Architecture; and presented at Yale CCAM, UPenn’s Annenberg School for Communication, and the 2022 United Nations Environment Assembly.
